Top 5 Posts of 2014

What a fun blogging year this has been!  I’ve learned so much and have “met” so many new friends here and have enjoyed every minute of it.  So for the final post of 2014, I thought we’d take a quick look back and see what YOUR favorite posts were this year!  Did your favorite make the most viewed list?

Let’s review in descending order.  Just click the title to view the full post!

#5 Update the Look Behind Your Books

This was a fun post about ways to update a bookcase to give it a custom look, using everything from paint, to wallpaper, to fabric!

#4 Guest Room Makeover REVEAL

I had so much fun making over this room using my Craigslist furniture finds!  Before, this room was just a dumping ground for extra decor items but now it’s a relaxing space for guests and a fun getaway for the kids when they have sleepovers!

#3 How to Decorate with Vintage Ladders

Before I had a ladder or my own, I gave a great deal of thought as to ways to decorate with one.  Basically, I think I was talking myself into their usefulness!  {And I was right…I *love* mine!}

#2 Minion Mayhem Birthday Party

This was a crazy fun birthday party that I hosted for littlest when she turned 6.  Sweet Hubby was such a sport dressing up as Gru!

And the most viewed post from 2014…..?

#1 Small Baths with Big Impact

Everyone has a small bathroom that seems too small to do anything with, but these rooms show just how big of an impact you can make in a tiny space!

It’s funny to me that this was the #1 most viewed post because I’m getting ready to share my guest bathroom reveal with you in the New Year.  I can’t wait!

I hope everyone has a safe New Year’s and I’ll see you in 2015!  And don’t forget to enter to win a $50 gift card to Antique Farmhouse.  Enter {here}!

Favorite Things 2014 {and a Gift for You!}

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and is enjoying their time as we close out 2014.  My family and I spent the day together playing games and opening gifts.  I cooked brunch and dinner but still never quite managed to get out of my PJs.  That’s my kind of day!  And today, believe it or not, is my birthday!  Actually, I like to think of it more like my anniversary….the anniversary of my 21st birthday but I’m not telling which anniversary it is!!

For my birthday, I thought I’d give a gift to you as my way of thanking you for making this a great year.  But first, I wanted to share some of my favorite decorating items from 2014.

1. Boxwood Wreaths

As I’m sure you’ve realized by now, I *love* boxwood wreaths in any and every size!  I like that they add an organic look to the room but are maintenance free and work with the decor year-round.

2. Antique Cameras

2014 brought about the start of my antique camera collection – hooray!  I have two so far and my collection might stop at just these two, but I really enjoyed researching and purchasing them.

3. Ironstone

I also worked on my ironstone collection in 2014, although I embellish it a bit my mixing in inexpensive pieces of white dinnerware from Target.  :)

4. Vintage Trophies (& Roses)

I find so many uses for my vintage trophies, everything from flower vases to remote holders!

5. Teacups

I collected a few little teacups that are just too cute for words.

6. Fresh Flowers

More and more I find myself stopping by the floral department when I go grocery shopping.  I especially like to have flowers in my room – it feels so decadent!  And if I remember, I dry them so that I can use them again for decorating.

And now my birthday gift to you!  A $50 Gift Card to Antique Farmhouse!  I look at the sales events happening at Antique Farmhouse every day and have scored some of my favorite things from the site, like my boxwood wreaths and vintage trophies.  And the great thing is that you aren’t limited to shopping just the current sales events.  You can shop past sales events, too, by looking on their Pinterest page and as long as the item is still in stock, you can buy it!gift-card_1

My 2014 Christmas Home Tour

I’ve shared with you a look at different room in my home all decorated for the holidays and today, I’m giving you the whole Christmas home tour!  This post includes, lots and lots of photos.  I tried to narrow it down to just my favorites, but there are still a lot so be prepared!  You can click on the links in each room for additional details and photos.

Let’s start at the front door, shall we?  This year, I wrapped the front door like a present with velvet wired ribbon.  I then added a few simple branches of greenery and a couple of mercury glass ornaments to the bow.  And YES!  I finally finished painting the door black but haven’t yet added the address of lion head door knocker.  This isn’t really how I had planned on revealing the door to you, though, so when I finally do the reveal, act surprised, okay?  :)

I added a Poinsettia and some cedar to a small basket…

…and I just couldn’t resist adding a Santa hat to my lion statue!

The first room inside the door is the living room, where we have our family Christmas tree.  It’s a live Nobel Fir with 1,500 lights so that it lights up the room at night!  You can see all of the living room pictures {here}.

The fireplace is covered in cedar branches and a cedar garland with touches of silver and white.

Here’s a look at my favorite chair all dressed up for the holidays with the addition of a simple velvet ribbon…

…but don’t you agree that it looks even better with my new puppy, Jax, sitting on it?!!!  He’s a miniature Labradoodle and we love him already!

The dining room has a similar look and feel to that of the living room, with lots of natural greenery, gingham ribbon, and red accents.  You can see all of the dining room pictures {here}.

I also added greenery to the chandelier, which makes a great backdrop for the crystals.

In the kitchen, I only did just a touch of decorating.  I really only like to decorate with items that makes sense in a kitchen and so prefer to use flowers, plants, and food that is seasonally themed {or colored}.  On the wall, I added some Poinsettias and ironstone plates to my vintage crates.

I also updated the fruit bowl vignette that sits in a basket on my countertop to include mandarin oranges, pomegranates, and nuts.

My family room is really the kids’ space, so it’s a lot more casual and traditional in terms of it’s holiday decor and colors.  I updated my gallery wall to give it a holiday theme.  You can see more in the post {here}.

I also gave the vintage game vignette some Christmas touches, dressed up my olive bucket, and added touches of red to my cabinet.

Finally, I created an advent calendar for just $8 using my old orchard ladder.  Details {here}.

The final stop on the holiday tour is my master bedroom.  I don’t really decorate anything in the room except the mantel because I love how it glows in the light of the fire.  I kept it super simple this year using only cedar branches and white roses to give it a timeless elegant look.

And yes, even my vintage dress form got a bit of Christmas bling…!

I hope you’ve enjoyed my holiday home tour!  Have a safe and happy holiday!
