Last Friday was my Spring Home Tour and if you didn’t get a chance to take a look, you can see it {HERE}.  I had so many photos, though, that I didn’t end up including all of them!  Today, I’m sharing a few more pictures of my living room that didn’t make it into last week’s post.

I moved some of my side tables around to create more space near the window for plants, like an orchid and a ZeeZee plant that I’ve put in an ironstone soup tureen.

I really love orchids and my local grocery store has a great selection, although inevitably, I kill them. :(

I never realized just how many old books I have until I was moving everything in preparation for the new floors.  There are just so many uses for books in decorating, though!  {THIS POST} has a whole list of ideas about how to use books.

I found these blue and white pillows at HomeGoods and bought them for the living room, but then moved them to the guest bedroom, and then back to the living room… I like that they brighten the space a bit and with some of the other changes that are coming up, I think I’ll be using more pops of white around the house.

I changed my coffee table style from The 4 Corner approach to Long and Linear.  If you want to read more about ways to style a coffee table, read {THIS POST}.  I used a basket tray to hold some magazines and an ironstone pot of roses, as well as my favorite cloche.

I love swapping out what I put in my cloche, but for Spring, I’m using some old flower frogs, moss, and feathers!

My home renovations started Monday morning and while the living room isn’t a part of the remodel, I’ll be changing up at few things to help brighten it a bit.  Also on my To Do list is to take a nice picture of the kids to frame above the fireplace, but somehow, the idea of getting them to stand next to one another nicely and smile seems overwhelming and difficult!! #siblings

I’ll be sharing some candid photos of the remodel in my Facebook page so pop over to see the updates and progress!

  1. It’s pretty difficult to kill orchids! It’s natural for a leaf to turn brown as leaves don’t last forever and die off. I wait for it to fall off on its own but you don’t have to. I water my orchids (well!) once a week or every ten days. By “well”, I mean, I remove them from the outer pot, turn tap to medium/lukewarm then run it over the bark chips for a good minute; until the chips are dark and look thoroughly wet. Let pot sit on counter until water stops running out the bottom then put back in decorative outer pot. The best info I was ever given was from a new friend – he owns over 200 orchids. The trick is: when the stem of the orchid stops blooming (when the blossoms have all fallen off) is do NOT cut the green stem back!! (I used to do that and wondered why I never had blooms!!) The only time you cut the bare stem back is when – or if – it turns BROWN! If the stem stays green, leave it alone! Ever since I started doing that, I’ve had extra stems pop up and way more blooms AND also have more blooms reappear on the bare green stem!! I tell everybody I meet now, passing on what I’ve learned. As for light, mine seem to like anything but, if the days get hot and the sun very strong, I tilt my shutters a bit so the orchids receive more dappled light. I hope this helps!! I used to wait a full year for two meager blooms, get tired of the orchid and give it away …. but now, I have non-stop blooms. I haven’t even fertilized them!

      Lol! Thank you, Karen! :)

  3. Love how you accessorize your room! Have been admiring the drapes in the background and have been searching for this exact color and silky fullness. Are they custom? If not where can I find them?

Hi Sylva! Thank you so much! These are 100% silk from HalfPriceDrapes.com. They have an amazing selection, great quality and amazing prices. I took a quick look online and didn’t see my exact curtains, but it’s possible I just missed them because they do have a large inventory. Be sure to check out the Sale section, too! Good luck! :) Kim

  4. Very pretty! The touches of blue are peaceful and welcoming. Can’t wait to see what you are up to.

Thank you, Stacey! I’ve been stuck in bed the last couple of days sick with a cold/flu but I promise to post some remodel updates soon!

      Thank you, Marty!

  5. It all looks beautiful. Love the pillows from HG. Are you sure you kill your orchids? They kind of go dormant after they bloom but then come back:)

    1. Tidbits&Twine says:

Well that’s a good question….I knew that they went dormant but are the leaves supposed to wither and turn brown in the dormant state? If not then I think it’s safe to say that I kill them!! Lol!

  6. So many beautiful elements, I love using books to decorate around the house, i like grouping them together or using them to highlight other pieces. Old books are so beautiful, love the smell and the sound of the paper as you flip through the pages.

    1. Tidbits&Twine says:

I never thought about the sound of the pages but you’re right, that is a great sound! If I like the cover, I leave it facing out and if I don’t, I turn the book around so that the pages face out which gives me a lot more decorating options. Do you collect your old books based on the author or story or just the aesthetic look?

      1. I must admit that I probably pick some books based on the looks. I know so superficial. :) A lot of times I reach for books I read before. I just like to see what the book looked like generations before me.
