This week is Spring vacation for my kids and we are celebrating with a very low-key staycation.  I spent the first couple of days unwinding, sleeping, and catching up on my favorite British dramas (hence no post on Monday!)  I’m also using this time at home with my kids to improve my photography skills and learn how to use more of the settings on my DSLR.  I use a Nikon D7000 with a 300mm lens.  When shooting indoors, I always shoot on manual, but when outdoors, I tend to use auto.  Here’s a look at what I’ve captured from Spring break so far.

Our time started off with dog sitting two of the smartest, and most adorable Shih-tzu Yorkie-Poo’s.  The sister puppies were a wonderful addition to our house and the kids had a blast playing with the girls while their owners were away.  The day that the two dogs left, we picked up a Golden Retriever from another friend who was going away.  Here’s a look at sweet Lucy hanging out in our front yard.

With the various dogs visiting at our house, we’ve spent a lot of time in the backyard recently.  A few weeks ago I posted a picture on Facebook of our first bloom of the season…

…but now we have many other blooms in the yard, including the white Iceberg roses that fill our front yard.

The container on my front porch is finally starting to fill in and I even have my first bloom on my calibrachoa!

My kids’ school is adjacent to country roads and there is am amazing view of the hills and pastures from the school parking lot.  This time of year, the hills are green and covered with patches of yellow mustard.  I noticed how pretty the hills were last week and so stopped by this week for a quick photo.

When not lounging, the kids are participating in a cooking camp.  Tuesday was the first day and they made chicken and cookies!  I probably should have stayed to watch so that I could learn a thing or two… :)

We are a swim team family and so spend a lot of time at the pool.  There’s no practice this week, just fun!

My daughter and I are also using this week to work on her birthday party preparations.  She has chosen to have a Minion party and I’m so hoping hubby will dress as Gru!

And last but not least, hubby captured Monday night’s blood moon by attaching our DSLR to his telescope {post here}.  Despite the layer or clouds, it’s a beautiful sight!

The remainder of the week will consist of more dog sitting, more cooking classes, more swimming and lots of rest.  Happy Wednesday and enjoy the rest of your week!
