This is just a quick post to wish you a happy Super Bowl Sunday! Personally, I am not a football fan and so had planned to go to the antique faire this morning. Unfortunately, Mother Nature had other plans and the show was cancelled due to rain. This was especially disappointing for me because for the first time, I was actually prepared for the cold morning weather with a brand new winter coat! Now this may not sound very exciting to you, but considering that the last time I bought a winter coat was 1996 {yes, you’re reading that right}, a new coat is big news for me! My old coat had four things wrong with it:
- It was purple. Now, this might not seem so bad, but it was Barney the dinosaur purple. Not a good look.
- It was one size too big, thus increasing the odds that I’d be mistaken for Barney.
- There was no hood, so it wasn’t too helpful in the rain.
- It wasn’t actually warm…at all!
So, considering the above, it only took me 16 years to replace it. By now you’ve probably figured out that I’m not big into fashion and don’t really enjoy shopping for clothes. I prefer shopping for housewares to clothes shopping any day! Thankfully, I have a friend who takes me out clothes shopping every once in a while and picks things out for me so that I don’t look too bad day-to-day, but even she wouldn’t be seen with me in my too big, Barney coat.
I decided to splurge a bit and get a coat I really loved. February is a good time to get a coat where I live because they are on sale in order to make room for swim suits. I trekked down to Any Mountain and found a really nice guy to help me, but he kept talking about skiing and wanted to know what type of snow conditions I’d be in. I finally had to sheepishly admit that I wouldn’t be in the snow at all but that I needed a coat to keep me warm while I waited in line at 5:45 in the morning for the antique faire and that continued to keep me warm as I browsed booths for 5+ hours in the cold winter weather with the bay breezes. From the look on his face I’m guessing that this was the first time he’d helped someone pick out a coat for this reason. To each his own!
I finally settled on The North Face Metropolis Parka. Isn’t she a beauty?!
So, whether you’re hanging out watching the game, enjoying the outdoors, or taking advantage of the game to run errands in nearly empty stores, I hope you stay safe….and warm.
