This week’s Christmas Home tours have officially kicked off today!  While my stop on the tour isn’t until this Friday, I thought I’d get a head start and share with you how my guest bedroom looks this holiday season!

You might notice that the color scheme isn’t my usual, since I tend to use nontraditional colors a lot, but with the black painted furniture and the deep blue blankets, I really thought this room called for some traditional red and green.  Mostly, I just wanted an excuse to use plaid….I don’t know why but plaid was really calling to me this year and thankfully, I love the way it looks in this room!

I replaced the His and Hers signs that were above the beds with All is Calm, All is Bright, which seemed fitting to me in this room.  {As an aside, you wouldn’t believe how much controversy those His and Hers signs stirred up!  I just thought they were cute!}

Christmas decor in the guest bedroom

These frames are just inexpensive frames from IKEA that I spray painted black.  The signs I made myself on the computer and had them printed at Staples.com as an oversized engineering print.  I was able to print BOTH for just $3.58!  A little sprig of mistletoe completed the look.  Stay tuned in the coming weeks for a printable version of these signs that you can print and use in your own home!

I had fun adding Christmas-y bits and baubles to my hutch.  I might have also added to my trophy collection just a bit….!

A small pine fit perfectly in my large trophy and I found these cute pom-poms while shopping at HomeGoods and couldn’t resist added them to the top of the hutch to bring in a bit of red and white.

I kept my usual deckle-edged books and bits of ironstone in the cabinet, but replaced my usual stash of pencils with some yummy candycanes and added bits of red and green to help tie the room together.  You can save and print this free Merry & Bright printable {HERE}.

My super-talented friend Kelly gave me a gorgeous vintage wooden crate and attached a leather riding strap to it as a handle.  I thought it was the perfect fit underneath the hutch to hold extra towels for guests….plus a few Christmas accents!

..

I’m hope my guests enjoy the room all decked out for the holidays…if you like it too, be sure to PIN it!

Stay tuned later this week for a look at my master bedroom decorated for Christmas, which has a completely different look and feel than this room!  But for now, pop over to Monday’s tours to see what these amazingly talented designers have done!

Beautiful room and as always every detail is just right. You have a beautiful home. Thank you for sharing it with us. I love those frames from Ikea. Can you share which ones they are, wondering if they are still available.

    1. Hi Penny,

Thank you so much! I just looked on IKEA’s website and I don’t see the frames anymore! Too bad because they were inexpensive and really unique…

  2. I love the look. What brand of chalk paint did you use? I also love the plaid. What a welcoming room.

  3. Beautiful room! Are the beds twin size? Can you use a twin and full size bed to achieve the same look or would it look funny with two different size beds?

    1. Hi Beth! My beds are both twin size. I think the difference with using one full and one twin is just that it wouldn’t have the same symmetry, but perhaps you could visually make the twin bed look larger with the addition of some artwork to balance out the size of the full bed.

  4. Did you paint the desk yourself or did you purchase it from a store? If you recreated this piece, do you have a tutorial of the steps you took to do so? Also, what color is the paint you used. The room is over the top – you have a wonderful gift of decorating! I hope to hear back….

      Hi Beth,

I bought the desk off of Craigslist and it was yellow and gold if I recall…. I had it chalk painted Wrought Iron, along with both of the headboards, which I also found on Craigslist. :) Kim

It’s hard to believe that something as simple as his/her would stir things up. Oh well.
