Have you ever stumbled across a great piece of furniture for an amazing price at a garage sale of thrift store that looks like it’s just begging for a makeover?  Or maybe you have a piece of furniture that you love and want to keep, you still find yourself longing for a change now and then.  A great way to feel like you have a fresh start with a new piece of furniture is to give it a little facelift!

Paint

You can of course paint the entire dresser, but also consider just giving the drawers a splash of color for a different look!

Or maybe, paint the frame and leave the drawers their natural wood color!

Or you can even add a cute image or design to fit the theme of your room!

Decoupage

I am a huge fan of decoupage and find it has so many uses, like adding fun maps to the front of drawers.

You can also decoupage prints {like these botanicals}, book pages, sheet music, family photos, or even childrens’ artwork!

Wallpaper

You can wallpaper the entire dresser or just the drawer fronts.  And imagine how easy it would be if you used the repositionable adhesive-backed wallpaper liked I used for my pantry makeover!

Fabric

You can always change the look of a piece by covering it with fabric like Kris did here:

…or you can try just covering the sides of the drawers for a more subtle change.

Stencils

If you have a steady hand, give stenciling a try!  You can create an amazing design or even stencil on words or phrases that are meaningful to you.

Trim

Adding trim or moulding can give a plain dresser some details and charm, but you can  also use it to create a design!

New Hardware

Sometimes, just updating the hardware can make a world of difference, like fun leather pulls…

The next time you see a plain piece of furniture at a yard sale or thrift store, think about ways you can transform the piece from ordinary to extraordinary!
