I have been in the process of remodeling my master bedroom…well…for over a year now.  For me, it’s a very S-L-O-W process because I’m trying to find things that I love but at a price I can afford, and sometimes that takes time!   I’ve posted photos of my fireplace and mantel before, and even one of my nightstand, but never of my bed because I am still looking for bedding.  But today, I am one step closer!

I didn’t know it at the time, but looking back, I realize that my remodel was inspired by design I created on Olioboard for a contest {I took 2nd place!}.  This board, called Lonely Lady, has been the basis for the look and feel of my remodel.

I suppose that’s why I fell in love with have had the Italian Vintage Baroque Duvet in Pacific from Restoration Hardware.  Doesn’t it remind you of the wallpaper in the design above?!

Finding the main bedding was easy, but finding coordinating shams proved to be a challenge.  I thought that I wanted the room to stay primarily neutral, so I tried a few different shades of beige and taupe, but didn’t ever really love them.  The search continued…and then came to a standstill.

About a year later, I purchased some blue ruffle linen napkins for my dining room.

One day, I had one of my blue linen napkins in my purse {don’t we all carry napkins in our purses?!} and it ended up in my bedroom.  That was it!  Love at first sight!  I knew that I wanted to incorporate this deeper blue into my room, but the trouble was finding bedding in this shade!  Neither Pottery Barn nor Restoration Hardware carried bedding in this color, so I turned my search to the internet.  I came up empty.

One day, I was walking through Bed Bath & Beyond and spotted the perfect shade of blue from across the store.  I was a woman on a mission as I charged through the aisles to get my hands on the bedding!

Of course, by this point, I now carried my linen napkin in my purse with me at all times so that I could match it to bedding should I ever find some, and it turned out to be a perfect match.  I snatched up a quilt and some Euro shams on the spot.  {As a side note, I always carry fabric and paint swatches in my purse when I am working on a room so that I can coordinate fabrics and accessories.}  I love how this deeper shade of blue works with my existing duvet and linen headboard, plus I decided to keep one of the smaller, neutral shams to use as an accent pillow.

I am so happy to be one step closer to finishing up my master bedroom.  Now if I could just finish up the antique chairs that I need to refinish and reupholster then I could finally show you the reveal.  Actually, I still need sheets that will coordinate, so if you have a suggestion, please send it my way!

  1. Kim – It’s nice to know that I’m not the only one who scours the internet, stores & website in search for the perfect bedding! I’ve been looking for the past few months & also looking for new lamps for our livingroom & master. What a daunting process BUT it’s important to get the right ones at a great price I think.

I couldn’t agree more! Good luck with your search, Amy!

  2. I think we must be kindred spirits where room design/redo is concerned. I like to find the best prices but I want it to look like the original inspiration. Sometimes that takes months.
I love the bedding you’ve selected. Your mantle is striking, the accessories are great. Is the pear branch faux?

Hi Karen! Thank you so much! Yes, the pear branch is actually from Target (Threshold brand). They had some beautiful faux stems in Spring so I snatched up a few. :)

  3. The combination of colours and patterns is very pretty. I love blue so this caught my eye right away. I’m slowly working on a mostly neutral with blue master bedroom as well. Very slowly as time and budget are big considerations.

Thank you, Elizabeth! I’ve been converting to mostly neutrals with blue accents as well. :) And I can relate to having a project move slowly…but I try to look at it as a process and in the end, I’ll know that each piece was carefully selected to fit with the room and my budget. Good luck with your master bedroom project!

  4. Ha Ha Kim I thought I was the only person that carried color samples like napkins in my purse! LOL! Love the blue and wow that coverlet does look just like the wallpaper on your inspiration board. Awesome and so pretty.

Hi Kris – So glad to know I’m not the only one with a purse full of swatches! :)
