Your nightstand is one of those small spaces that quietly shapes the feel of your bedroom. It holds the practical things you reach for every night, but it’s also a great place to add a little personality and charm.

I recently shared some simple ways to style a nightstand, and today I thought it would be fun to follow that up with a Treasured Tidbits roundup of pieces that work beautifully for a French-inspired bedside. Think warm gold accents, classic glass lamps, vintage-style books, and a few small details that add that collected European feel.

Here are some of my favorite finds for creating a French style bedside table.

The Simple Formula for a Beautiful Nightstand

When I style a nightstand, I don’t follow a strict formula, but there are a few elements I almost always include.

I start with an anchor, usually a lamp or a mirror, and then layer in a few practical pieces I’ll actually use at night. From there, I add something personal and something organic, like a small stack of books, a dish for jewelry, or a vase with flowers.

The exact combination depends on the size of your nightstand and how you use it, but keeping those elements in mind makes it much easier to pull everything together

Curated Nightstand Finds

Statement Mirror

This is the vertical anchor. A Louis-style or softly arched mirror adds height, reflects light, and helps the nightstand feel intentional rather than flat.

Gold frames work especially well for a French bedside because they add warmth and a hint of vintage character without overwhelming the space.

Glass Lamp

Every nightstand needs a light source, and a classic glass lamp keeps the look elegant but light.

The transparent base allows other elements on the nightstand to shine while still adding a little sparkle and sophistication.

Oval Frame

A small framed piece adds personality to a bedside table and helps break up the shapes of the other objects. Leaning a frame against the wall or mirror is an easy way to layer the vignette without taking up much space.

This oval frame works beautifully for a French-inspired bedside. The gold and black detailing feels classic and slightly vintage, and the included artwork gives it a finished look right out of the box.

Capri Blue Volcano

A candle adds warmth and a little evening atmosphere to a bedside vignette. It’s one of those small details that makes a bedroom feel calm and inviting at the end of the day.

Choose a candle in a decorative container so it looks beautiful even when it’s not lit.

Decorative Book Box Set

A small stack of books instantly adds warmth and layering to a nightstand vignette.

Neutral or linen-bound books work beautifully in a bedroom because they introduce texture while keeping the palette calm and cohesive.

Ceramic Vase

A vase adds softness and life to a bedside table. Even a simple arrangement of greenery or a few stems can make the space feel relaxed and welcoming.

This matte ceramic style works beautifully in a French-inspired bedroom because the darker finish adds contrast against lighter bedding and furniture.

Beautiful Faux Lilacs

Fresh flowers are one of the simplest ways to soften a bedside table.

A darker ceramic vase adds contrast and helps the arrangement stand out while still keeping the overall look relaxed and natural.

Marble Scalloped Catchall

A small tray or dish keeps everyday essentials like jewelry, glasses, or lip balm contained so the nightstand doesn’t feel cluttered.

Scalloped or ceramic designs add a decorative detail while still serving a practical purpose.

Water Carafe

A glass carafe and tumbler bring a subtle European hotel feel to a bedside table.

It’s practical to keep water nearby at night, and the simple glass silhouette keeps the vignette feeling clean and classic.

How to Keep a Nightstand from Feeling Cluttered

Because nightstands are small surfaces, they can start to feel crowded pretty quickly.

What helps most is editing it down to what you’ll actually use at night. A lamp or mirror anchors the space, and then it’s just a few supporting pieces like a book, a small tray, or something organic.

I usually stop before it feels “full” and leave a little open space. That’s what keeps it feeling calm instead of crowded.

Here’s a look at how these same types of pieces come together on my own nightstand. You can shop my nightstand HERE.

At the end of the day, a nightstand doesn’t need much. A few pieces you love, a couple things you actually use, and a little space to keep it from feeling crowded.

These are the types of items I tend to reach for when I’m styling a bedside, especially when I want that softer, French-inspired look.

If you want to see how I actually pull it all together (and how I adjust it depending on the size and layout), you can read my full post on how to style a nightstand.
