As you probably know, I believe that books are for more than just reading. I love to decorate with books throughout my home. I have books stacked on coffee tables, propped on console table and turned all directions on bookshelves!

If you haven’t already tried decorating with books, you should give it a try. One of my favorite things to use books for is to add height but there are more ideas in this post.

Sometimes, a plain book makes a beautiful statement, especially if the cover is particularly pretty. But more often, a stack of books is just begging for a beautiful piece of book topper decor!

Why Use Book Topper Decor?

Book topper decor offers a unique opportunity to showcase your personality and style while adding depth and dimension to your home décor. Whether you’re styling a bookshelf, coffee table, or mantel, book toppers allow you to create curated vignettes that reflect your interests, passions, and aesthetic preferences.

1. Personalize Your Space

Book toppers provide an opportunity to infuse your personality into your décor. Choose objects that reflect your interests, hobbies, or travels. Whether it’s vintage trinkets, sculptural pieces, or sentimental mementos, book toppers allow you to showcase your unique style and create a space that feels truly yours.

2. Create Visual Interest

Stacks of books can sometimes appear monotonous, but book toppers add visual interest and dimension. Experiment with different shapes, sizes, and textures to create dynamic vignettes. Mix and match objects with varying heights and materials to create a visually appealing display that draws the eye and adds depth to your décor.

3. Add Color and Texture

Book toppers are an excellent way to introduce pops of color and texture into your space. Incorporate objects in vibrant hues or interesting textures to create contrast and visual impact. Whether it’s a colorful vase, a textured sculpture, or a metallic figurine, book toppers can breathe new life into your bookshelves and bring personality to your room.

4. Showcase Your Treasures

Do you have cherished keepsakes or collectibles gathering dust on a shelf? Use book toppers to showcase these special items. Elevate your treasures by placing them atop stacks of books, where they can take center stage and be admired.

5. Achieve Balance and Symmetry

Book toppers can help create a sense of balance and symmetry in your décor. Use them to anchor the ends of shelves or bookcases, providing visual stability and cohesion. Pair similar objects on either side of a shelf to create a harmonious and polished look that ties your space together.

6. Rotate with the Seasons

One of the best things about book topper decor is its versatility. Switch out your book toppers seasonally to reflect the changing seasons or upcoming holidays. From festive décor during the holidays to fresh florals in the spring, rotating your book toppers allows you to keep your space feeling fresh and inviting year-round.

Tips & Tidbits for Book Topper Decor

  • Keep the proportion in scale with the books underneath. Generally speaking, the topper should be slightly smaller than the book below.
  • Look for low items unless you’re using the books as a base to give height to a large item, such as a vase of flowers.
  • Don’t be afraid to break the symmetry of the book stack! A simple feather placed askew can look quite interesting!
  • Take into account the existing decor style of the room where you plan to display your book toppers.
  • Don’t forget about function! Bonus points if your book topper serves a dual purpose, like a small box that sit on top of your books but can also hold the TV remotes.
