Is your favorite lefty struggling in this right-handed world? As a lefty myself, here’s my curated guide for the best gifts for lefties that are useful, practical and much-loved! The left-handed struggle is real – and so is this gift guide!

If you didn’t know (and why would you?), I am one of the rare 10% of the population. That’s right, I’m a lefty and proud of it!

Yes, sometimes eating next to us at a table can be a challenge (more elbow room, please!) and yes, we might smear the writing in your birthday card, but be patient with us because we are living in a right-handed world.

No seriously. We are. And I’ll bet you don’t realize how many products are designed solely for right-handed people.

The Best Gifts for Lefties (according to a lefty)

You might already know that many left-handed people are ambidextrous and while we write with our left hands, we do a lot of things with our right. Maybe this is nature, or maybe it’s because we’ve had to adapt. I don’t know.

But what I do know is that we live in a right-handed world!

Some left handed items might be obvious to you, like scissors for example. But did you know that playing cards are right-handed and many lefties struggle with them? Did you know that ladles are right-handed and measuring cups, too? I’m guessing some of these items never crossed your mind that they are not made for lefties.

So, if you have a lefty in your life, here are some practical and useful items that might just make their lives a little bit easier. You might think that a measuring cup or ladle isn’t a “fun” present, but to a left-handed person, these items are great!

So this is my curated list as a lefty myself, of items that are really useful to us southpaws!

Scissors

Left Handed Scissors

These are perfect for a lefty who happens to cut left-handed. Remember, a lot of lefties were forced to learn to cut right-handed in school, so double check that your lefty cuts left before gifting these to them.

Nail Scissors

There’s more than just paper scissors! Lefties need left-handed cuticle scissors, too!

Left Handed Pruners

If you cut left-handed, these will be super helpful in the garden!

Kitchen

Liquid Measuring Cup

This one might seem odd but it’s true – measuring cups are made for right-handed cooks! If you hold the cup in your left hand, you can’t read the measurements because they’re on the wrong side! This one is made just for us lefties so we can read the measurements. Or you can get this one which works for either hand!

ladle

Here’s another one you might not have realized! If you hold a regular ladle in your left hand, the pouring lip is on the wrong side! This one works when using either hand.

Spatula

Angled perfectly for a left-handed person when cooking!

CorkScrew

A typical corkscrew should be turned clockwise, which works well for a right-handed person but can be tricky if using your left hand. This corkscrew turns counterclockwise with the lefty in mind!

Hobby

Playing Cards

This image shows how left-handed people fan their cards, which is opposite of right-handed people. The problem is that regular playing cards have their numbers on the upper-left and lower-right corners only, so when left-handed people fan their cards, they can’t see the numbers!! These cards are numbered opposite so that lefties can see the numbers. Or you can get these cards, which are numbered on all four corners so everyone can use them!

Guitar

It’s strung the other direction so that it’s perfect for the left-handed musician!

baseball glove

Designed to fit on the right hand so a lefty can throw with their left.

Office

Spiral Notebook

This notebook is bound on the right so there’s no more precariously balancing your hand on top of the spirals!

Ink Pens

For a lefty, it’s important that the ink dries quickly so that their hand doesn’t smear it. These pens have 4.7/5.0 stars out of over 72k reviews!

Tape Measure

Designed with right-to-left measurements so that you can hold the tape measure in your left hand and read the numbers.

Computer Keyboard

This puts the number keypad on the left for ease of use.

Just for Fun

Okay, these are practical or useful like the other gifts for lefties above, but if your lefty is proud to be in the 10% they might want something to show it off a bit!

Mug

Printed on both sides so even the left-handed drinker can enjoy it!
