Hate me now, thank me later.
I know it’s only the first week of October and most of us still have pumpkins sitting around, but Walmart’s best Christmas decor is already selling out.
I learned this firsthand because I ended up visiting three different Walmarts to find some of the things I wanted. And even then, a couple of the pieces I bought are already sold out near me, including the $1.97 gold crackle glass ornaments and the outdoor jingle bells.
So yes, this post is early.
But if you’re going to shop Walmart Christmas decor this year, waiting until November might mean missing some of the best pieces. And if Walmart isn’t usually on your radar for home decor, I think this might change your mind.

Walmart Has Seriously Stepped Up Its Christmas Decor
Walmart has always sold a lot of Christmas decor, of course, but the last few years feel different.
For me, the My Texas House cypress tree was one of the first pieces that really made me pay attention. It went viral, sold out, came back in more sizes, and suddenly Walmart wasn’t just somewhere I thought of for lights, extension cords and wrapping paper.
Now they’re doing some genuinely beautiful Christmas decor at really good prices.
There are realistic wreaths and garlands, glass ornaments, velvet ribbon, natural wood nutcrackers, oversized bells, vintage-inspired artwork and decorative pieces that look far more expensive than they are.
And it isn’t just My Texas House.
Holiday Time has some surprisingly beautiful pieces this year, and Better Homes & Gardens had one find that I loved so much I actually went back for more.
The tricky part is that inventory varies a lot from store to store. My local Walmart barely carries My Texas House, which is how I ended up on my three-store Christmas decor tour in September.
So if you don’t see something at your store, definitely check online. And if you do see something you love, I wouldn’t assume it will still be there a few weeks from now.
What Caught My Eye This Year
The ornament selection might have been my biggest surprise.
One store had what felt like 75 different individual ornaments, all priced at just $1.97. There was something for just about every style of Christmas decorating, from traditional red and green to neutrals, metallics, candy and gingerbread themes.
And these aren’t all basic plastic ornaments.
Some of the glass ornaments are genuinely beautiful.
This turquoise glass ornament, for example, has etched and painted details that look nothing like a $1.97 ornament.

But the ones that really got me were the gold crackle glass ornaments.
They’re large, heavy glass and have that aged, reflective finish you’d expect to see at Pottery Barn. They come in gold, silver and red, and somehow they’re only $1.97 each.
I bought the gold crackle glass ornaments, and they’re already sold out near me.

The greenery was another standout. Walmart has some surprisingly realistic wreaths and garlands this year, especially from My Texas House. I ended up bringing home a My Texas House wreath and the pre-lit cedar garland, and I already owned one of their cedar trees from a previous year.
I also bought the Holiday Time outdoor jingle bells, which have already sold out, and I can see why. They have that oversized aged-gold look that normally comes with a much higher price tag.
The natural wood nutcrackers caught my eye too, along with the My Texas House gold glass trees. A friend of mine ended up buying the set of three glass trees after seeing them in person.

And one of my favorite look-for-less finds was a sculptural black reindeer that immediately reminded me of Pottery Barn’s bronze reindeer. Same tall, skinny silhouette and branching antlers, but at a much friendlier price.
Walmart: $12.94
Pottery Barn: $39.50
And then there’s this candle.

The Better Homes & Gardens plaid candle in Farm Apple Pumpkin might be my favorite Walmart find of all.
I originally bought one, burned it at home and liked it so much that I went back for more. My husband loved it too, which pretty much sealed the deal.
The plaid glass vessel is beautiful, and the scent reminds me of the much pricier Anthropologie holiday candles I’ve bought in the past. It also actually fills the house with fragrance when it’s burning, which is a big deal for me. Nothing is more disappointing than a candle that smells amazing in the store and then barely smells at all once you light it.

I pulled together all of my favorite finds below, including the pieces I bought myself and the ones I think are worth a closer look.
I’ll keep adding to this collection as I find more good pieces.
But with Walmart Christmas decor, I’ve learned one thing: if you see something you really love, don’t wait too long.
Apparently, the first week of October is already too late for some of it.
