Take a tour of my French-inspired Christmas living room decor! The neutral palette of brown, green, and gold is both traditional and elegant for a timeless feel.
This year I got a new Christmas tree (you can read about it HERE) and would you believe it’s been up since the end of August?! And a new Christmas tree means a whole new look, right?
I previously shared a look at my tree (below) along with a review, but today I’m sharing photos of the entire room so you can see how the tree ties in with the entire space.
Be prepared. There are LOTS of photos to come…
My daughter asked me how I decide on my tree’s theme each year and the honest answer is that I go shopping and if something inspires me, that’s the direction I go.
This year, I stumbled across cute brown and gold picks at Hobby Lobby that inspired by color scheme.
I also purchased brown velvet flowers as the focal point on the tree. I added in a few other picks for interest, like brown glitter grass and gold glitter berries. As a last step, added the ornaments.
And I always keep some decorative presents on hand so the tree never looks empty.
Mixing presents with decor like snowglobes, nutcrackers, sleighs, etc. makes the bottom of the tree look festive.
So my color scheme this year is brown, forest green, and gold. I used this color scheme not just on the tree, but throughout the entire room.
The truth is, though, I don’t buy new ornaments or decor each year. In fact, if you look at past tours, you’ll recognize the same things over and over. I own a lot of neutral Christmas decor and then use ribbons, pillows, and picks to change the look of the room year after year.
You’ve seen my favorite white feather trees year after year! And this Pottery Barn vase full of my favorite faux white peonies and roses is a staple year-round. But this year I combined them together for my coffee table display.
I added some of my favorite faux greenery picks to tie the vignette together.
My antique dough bowl is filled with assorted mercury glass votive holders. A simple white feather boa purchased at the craft store fills in the gaps with the look of snow.
I have a candle burning almost every day throughout Fall and Winter and I love this candle holder paired with my favorite bells.
I purchased this brass laurel wreath with sacred heart from Terrain last year after the holidays, so this year is my first chance to put it on display! They no longer sell this exact one, but they do sell just the heart on a stand.
Below you can see how my coffee table ties into the other side of the room (opposite the Christmas tree).
I added more throw pillows than normal to my sofa just for some extra color and texture. All three of the square pillows are from Amazon and the lumbar one is from Pottery Barn. You might recognize that I used the two green pillows in my Fall family room earlier this year!
My goal is always to get as much use of out things that I buy as possible, so I love the idea of moving pillows from room to room and using them from season to season!
This blanket ladder has moved all over my house, but right now it’s filling this space in the corner and holding some decorative stockings.
Over on my fireplace is my Christmas garland. I’m not going to lie…this might be my favorite feature in the room.
I created this look by using two different styles of garland and layering them together. I then added some of my favorite greenery picks to create a fuller, more organic shape.
A few of the gold glitter berries, brown glitter grass, and ornaments rounded out the look.
Repeating the elements that I used on the tree on the mantel helped to tie everything together in this room.
I think this year’s look might just be my favorite over the last few years…
And at night, this is the glow from the tree that we see all throughout the house!
So that’s this year’s living room tour! Next up is my Christmas dining room tour.
I’ve linked to as many products as possible below if you want to shop the look. I purchased all of the Christmas tree picks from Hobby Lobby and it doesn’t look like they’re available online anymore. People are selling them on Etsy for 4x the price and I linked to them just so you could see in case you want to go to the store to try and find them.

Hi Kim,
Your room looks elegant and professionally put together. It’s beautiful. Will you please explain to what are picks? What kind of picks are there and their use? Did you ever do a post about them?
Thank you for taking time to answer my questions.
Hi! I used greenery picks from Michael’s and my favorite ones are super pliable and hang nicely on a mantel. I literally just placed them on top of the garland or stuck them in (on the vertical drop). Here’s a link to the ones I used: https://rstyle.me/+CFza2-YSJ0hYswchNsfa5w
Hi Kim, your French inspired Christmas decor is absolutely stunning!! A feast for the eyes! Enjoy all of your posts. You’re very talented. Who photographs for you? You garland is so lush and dreamy. Can you please tell me the exact two different kinds of garland you used? And what about the mirror on mantle, where is that from? When I clicked on the Aflora link garland it did not come up. If you can email me the info I’d greatly appreciate it.
Wonderful job Kim! I love the palette.
Thank you, Jo!!! :)
Just beautiful Kim! I love that full, rich, yet comfy look! Question… how many picks do you use of each type to get that fullness?
Hi Kathleen – That’s a good question! I had to count because I really wasn’t sure. I used 17 of the big flowers and 32 of the trio picks and that covered 3/4 of the tree (because the very back portion was against the wall).
