What can you expect in 2025? Learn all about the 2025 decorating trends to watch for, plus find out what’s still “in” and what’s on it’s way “out”.
Each year I like to look at expert predictions for trends and then narrow the list down to those that I think you should pay attention to. Usually, my list includes only trends that I think will be more timeless than trendy – those worth your time and money.
This year is a little bit different…
A lot of things that are currently trending aren’t new for this year. Instead, trends from 2023-2024 are still going strong, which is great! But some of the “new” things for 2025 are beautiful…but probably not for the average homeowner.
Despite that, they’re still worth knowing and paying attention to!
So this year’s list includes things that I think you’ll see the most, but not all of them are timeless. Don’t worry, I’ll point out those that are and those that aren’t!
So without further ado, here are my predictions for the 2025 interior design trends that will last! You can use the Table of Contents below to navigate through the article!

Should You Follow the Trends?
The short answer is no, you should do what makes you happy in your own home regardless of whether it’s “in” or “out”.
The long answer is that trends influence our tastes whether we realize it or not. And trends can inspire us to try something we might not have thought about before.
These little changes, whether you’re remodeling or simply changing out a few accent pieces, help our homes feel current and keep pace with our ever-evolving selves.
Personally, I don’t really follow the trends unless I think it’s something I love as much 10 years from now as I do today (unless it’s something small and inexpensive). I like trends that I think will be timeless.
To me, the best trends are ones that inspire us and broaden our interests, but that have staying power.

Still Trending from 2023-2024
Some things that have been big the last few years are still going strong! These include:
- Brass fixtures
- Rich wood furniture and cabinetry
- Fluting on furniture, walls, and accessories
- Mixed metal finishes
- Wallpaper
- Moody paint colors
- Mix of modern and antique elements
- Shades of brown in furniture, fabrics, and accessories
- Arched doorways and hallways
- Quiet luxury
- Maximalism
Top 2025 Interior Design Trends
This year there are a couple of trends that really stand out. Take color drenching for example. It’s hard to miss that trend as it dominates social media!
And as we continue to see stark minimalism replaced by bold maximalism, wallpaper, prints, texture and embellishments continue their rise in popularity.
And speaking of patterns, last year’s quiet luxury brought a resurgence of plaid, checked, and other classic patterns. But this year brings us pattern drenching, where anything and everything goes!
Beautiful shades of brown dominate furniture, cabinetry, and soft goods, but 2025 brings more variety with the use of all Earth tones in their cozy, muted colors.
And while fluting is still popular, other forms of textured walls, like limewash, molding, and wallpaper will see a rise in popularity. And don’t forget about the fifth wall – the ceiling – which is also getting a makeover!
The existing and new trends allow for a wide variety in what’s popular and what color palette can be used, but more importantly, they offer the ability to create unique and individual spaces that reflect and celebrate individuality!
Color Drenching
Color drenching is the latest paint trend! Simply put, it means painting every surface in a room in the same color – walls, ceiling, trim, baseboards, radiators, etc.

As minimalist styling fades away and maximalist design gains in popularity, color drenching is a great way to bring energy and personality to a room. This is a great way to add dramatic impact to an existing space with just a little paint!
You can choose to stick with one color on every surface or change it up a bit playing with the saturation or intensity. You can also use different paint sheens or even textures on each surface.
While you’ll often see color drenching used with rich, highly-saturated colors, you can use softer shades as well.
Color drenching, while beautiful, isn’t for everyone. You need to be passionate about the color you choose so that you can love it for at least a few years. You should also ensure that the color you choose complements the rest of your home unless you color drench a very small area, like a powder room.
So while top designers and big influencers might be color drenching in 2025, I don’t think this is a trend that will be timeless, nor do I think the average homeowner will be tackling this particular trend…but that’s my opinion.
Tip: Color drenching works well on a single room but don’t try it in an open concept living space – that’s too much!
Pattern Drenching
Pattern, pattern, and more pattern! Similar to color drenching, patter drenching involves adding pattern (either one or many) throughout a space. This could include wallaper, sofa prints, pillows, rugs, drapes, and more!
Needless to say, this is a bold move and one that should be done with a lot of thought and consideration. Nothing gives of maxialist vibes like pattern drenching!
While this isn’t actually a “new” concept, pattern drenching has been around for centuries. After all, picture the gorgeous Regency-style rooms featured in Bridgerton!
What is new for 2025 is that while rooms used to stick with one style of pattern, nowadays anything goes! So mix your florals with your checks, but be sure to follow the “rules”.

Textured Walls
To enhance the cozy feel we are all craving these days, designers are upgrading the walls from standard sheetrock to textured finishes. This could include paneling, molding, wallpaper or what’s really popular now…limewash!
Limewash paint finishes are very popular with more brands and colors available now to complement a wide range of decorative styles.
Interesting ceilings
Sometimes referred to as the fifth wall, ceilings are often overlooked when it comes to decorating. But not this year!
Whether you add beams, coffered ceilings, planking, or even wallpaper, adding visual interest to the ceiling.

In the early 19th century, people used wallpaper on their ceilings to imitate plasterwork or bordered paper that resembled architectural elements like coffered ceilings.
These days, though, wallpapered ceilings are used to create a focal point on what is called the fifth wall!

Hidden Home Technology
The great thing about today’s technology is that bluetooth and wireless networks allow us to connect without wires! What this means for you as a homeowner is that you can seamlessly add technology to your home without it being ugly and noticeable.
My Frame TV is a perfect example because who wants to stare at a black rectangle all day. When not in use, I have it display art so that it looks like a painting above my mantel.
And while newer homes are being constructed with technology built into them, you can find easy workarounds to bring the latest technology to an older home.

Earth Tones
Brown made a big comeback last year, but this year the trending colors have branched out to include all Earth tones. Earth tones are colors derived from nature – soil, trees, water, sky – but center around their muted shades. They tend to be considered soothing, cozy, and comfortable.
Popular Earth tones include white, brown, taupe, khaki, olive green, moss green, rust, gray-blue.
What’s Out
There are a few things we’re saying goodbye to including:
- Too much black- like black fixtures, window frames, countertops, etc. But the use of some black is classic
- Boucle – you’ll still see it in stores, but it’s beginning to look dated (see, I told you!)
- All white everything
- High-contrast black & white, including modern farmhouse – except harlequin floors which are timeless (not to be confused with checkerboard)
- Cold or stark minimalist
